Letter from our new Chairperson

May 2024

From my first visit 50 years ago, I always look forward to Liphook Carnival every year. Having enjoyed the Carnival over the years either as a spectator, participating as a member of Liphook Girl Guiding or more recently as a member of Liphook Carnival Committee I am always amazed at the wonderful atmosphere created by all the participants and onlookers alike, with the whole village coming together for the annual Liphook Carnival and Fireworks.

As Chair, I am honoured to be working with an incredible group of people who form Liphook Carnival Committee with the aim of building upon the success of previous carnivals and committees. All of us are passionate in ensuring that Liphook Carnival continues for future generations, to provide entertainment for all the family and raising money for communities, organisations and charities of our amazing village. I am particularly delighted that Sally Cameron has accepted the position of President of Liphook Carnival following her resignation at our 2024 AGM, Her extensive knowledge and expertise from being Chair for 6 years is a tremendous asset to both myself and the rest of the Committee.

We are very fortunate to still have an annual Carnival, as so many have disappeared. This is largely due to our Friends of Liphook Carnival volunteers, who generously give up their time to make sure all our events happen and run smoothly. You are very welcome to join our existing volunteers so that you too can be involved in this fantastic village event, as our Friends are key to the future of the Carnival.

Finally, without the generosity of local businesses the Carnival would not happen. I, together with the rest of Liphook Carnival Committee, look forward to their continued support and goodwill.

Looking forward to seeing you at our fundraising activities throughout the year as well as on Carnival night – the date of which is easy to remember as it is always the night that the clocks go back!
