Float Design
Floats don’t need to be big and lavash, a simple float can be just as effective, that old pram will make a perfect base for the push and pull. Frames built around this and covered in hardboard, suitably painted, can be surprisingly effective. Several of these push and pull, together will look just as spectacular.
Lighting
Remember that it is going to be dark when the procession gets under way, so lights are a necessity. Power can come from a car battery or small generator supplying power for fairy lights or flashing bulbs.
Weather
The carnival happens regardless of any adverse weather conditions. Be prepared for all weather situations, a stock of umbrella’s for walkers and plastic sheeting (if possible) to cover over the top of your float.
Remember water and power don’t mix well, make sure things like generators are covered, lights are waterproof/not open to elements.
Participants on the floats
For safety… ALL participants MUST be on the float and ready to go no later than 6.45pm. Participants can only get OFF the float at the end of the procession when the float has returned to Longmoor Road.
Participants may only get off if it’s an emergency & the emergency services are involved. Going to the toilet is NOT an emergency.
Food/Drink
The procession is scheduled to take approx 90 minutes, however there may be unforeseen delays, a supply of food and drink/hot drinks will be a huge advantage.
